The National Police announced that a group of 18 terror suspects carried out a drive-by shooting on police officers just a week after undergoing weapons training.

Four men from a group of 18 suspects opened fire on three police officers in Palu, Central Sulawesi. Two of the officers died at the scene.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said the group underwent paramilitary training twice.

The first training ran for four days in the Biru Mountains in Poso, Central Sulawesi, in August 2010, he said.

"The following training took place in the mountainous area of Malino III, Morowali, for four days as well between May 15 and 18," he added.

"The drive-by shooting took place on May 25. So it took them one week to assure themselves that what they were doing was right."

"The suspects were taught to dismantle firearms when the Poso riots broke out in 2000," Anton said.
