Jakarta Transportation Agency officers on Monday were seen reminding motorists not to park vehicles on Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk in Central Jakarta, two areas where new parking restrictions have recently been introduced.
Agency field commander Firmansyah told The Jakarta Post that the operation was aimed at familiarizing motorists with the new policy.
"This operation involves 71 officers from various offices including the Public Order Agency, [Jakarta] Traffic Police and the military," he said.
The initial familiarization phase would run for a month, he said, adding that the policy will come into effect as of July 21.
“After that, any motorist who violates the [parking restriction] will be punished,” he said.
The new policy was introduced in response to residents' complaints over daily traffic congestion on the street. As part of the plan, the administration will provide up to 10 parking stations in the area for motorists to use instead.
