Four politicians from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Ni Luh Mariani, Sutanto Pranoto, Suwarno and Mathos Pormes, were each sentenced to 17 months in prison after they were found guilty of receiving bribes in connection with the election of a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004.
“The defendants are found guilty corruption,” presiding judge Suwidya said at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday.
Suwidya added that the court had also required the defendants to pay fines of Rp 50 million (US$5,800) or serve an extra three months in prison if they were unable to pay.
The verdicts were lighter than the two years and six months in prison demanded by prosecutors.(drs)
