Jakarta Council wants a review of the recently enacted on-street parking ban on Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk in Central Jakarta.
“The no-parking policy must be reviewed, per lane, in contrast to just enacting the policy on all lanes,” Selamet Nurdin, the head of Commission B overseeing transportation, said during a hearing in Jakarta on Thursday with parking officers, vendors, employees and businesspeople working in the area.
The hearing was also attended by officials from the Jakarta Transportation Agency, tempointeraktif.com reported.
The meeting concluded with recommendations for further study of how the ban could impact economic activities around Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk.
Lieus Sungkharisma, coordinator for the Solidarity of Parking Officers, asked the Jakarta administration to lift the ban, citing how people in the area had donated a six-meter-wide lane to the administration to be used as pavement along the streets years ago.
