US-based social commerce firm LivingSocial has officially acquired local-based DealKeren, which has been offering discount vouchers for various products and services since the February launch of its website, www.dealkeren.com.
DealKeren CEO Adrian Suherman said Thursday in Jakarta that the acquisition became official on Monday, and was expected to support the company's target of increasing the number of its partner merchants from about 80 per month at present to between 100 and 150.
The move is also expected to boost DealKeren's members from 300,000 at present to 1 million.
Data shows that most DealKeren customers, about 70 to 80 percent, are concentrated in Jakarta, while the rest are mostly spread across several other Indonesian cities, including Bandung, Surabaya and Yogyakarta, Adrian said.
As of May, the company reportedly covered 65 percent of Indonesia's social commerce market.
“This acquisition can improve the growth of our social commerce business. Besides supporting the business, the acquisition also provides a number of added values to DealKeren,” Adrian told a press conference as quoted by kompas.com.
