Oil production falls due to maintenance

Upstream oil and gas regulator BPMigas revealed that maintenance activities at the Tunu field in East Kalimantan had caused the country’s oil production to fall from 916,000 barrels per day (bpd) last month to 906,000 bpd currently.

BPMigas spokesperson Gde Pradnyana told reporters that the contribution of the Tunu field was significant to the country’s total oil production. The field contributed around 20,000 barrels of condensate (oil found at a gas field) per day.

“The maintenance process will take a month to be completed, so it is still one more week before the Tunu field resumes operations,” he said on the sidelines of the launching of the BP Statistical Review on World Energy in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the maintenance activities were conducted once in a year to ensure that production facilities worked properly so that unexpected shutdowns caused by technical errors could be prevented.

“Once the field resumes operation, our production will jump to around 930,000 bpd,” said Gde.
