Busway shelters in South Tangerang demolished

A number of bus shelters erected last year along South Tangerang’s main roads have been demolished.

There have reportedly been no indicators as to when the planned feeder busway service from Jakarta to Serpong would begin operation.

“We were asked to complete the demolition of nine bus shelters in South Tangerang by state-owned city bus company [Perum PPD],” said an officer supervising the demolition work in front of the South Tangerang mayor's office on Jl. Siliwangi, Pamulang on Thursday.

The officer, who refused to be named said the bus shelters were demolished because it had waited too long to commence service, and that the local administration had not yet given certainty on when it would commence.

“We were just told to demolish the bus shelters. This should be completed within a week,” he said.

Separately, Nurdin Marzuki, head of the South Tangerang Transportation and Communication Agency, said that the administration had not received a letter of notice from the feeder busway operator on the demolition.

“In line with an agreement we signed with the bus operator, the South Tangerang administration welcomes the operation of the feeder busway after it improves infrastructure,” he said.

Nurdin said the administration was currently focusing on widening Jl. Siliwangi as part of an infrastructure improvement program.
