Nazaruddin often changes phone numbers: Legislator

Democratic party legislator Sutan Batoegana says bribery suspect and former party treasurer M. Nazaruddin is still in Singapore, contrary to reports he had left the country.

Nazaruddin reportedly fled to Singapore before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him suspect in a corruption case linked to the construction of an athletes dormitory for the upcoming SEA Games.

However, earlier this week the Singaporean government released a statement that said Nazaruddin was no longer there.

“I believe [Nazaruddin] is still in Singapore,” said Sutan, who previously led a team to bring Nazaruddin back to Indonesia.

Sutan added that there had been “no talk of [Nazaruddin] leaving Singapore” during his phone conversations with him.

“I was contacted [by Nazaruddin] by telephone on the 28th [of June].

“He simply asked how things were,” Sutan said.

He further added that it was always Nazaruddin who had contacted him, and that Nazaruddin had changed his phone number several times.

“I tried to call him back but the phone was inactive,” he said. “The [phone] number has changed.”

“If [Nazaruddin] wants to meet me and if I have the time I would definitely meet him,” Sutan said.
