DENPASAR: Beef prices at local markets have risen significantly recently due to high demand from restaurants and hotels during holiday seasons.
The price of beef is now about Rp 60,000 (US$6.40) per kilogram.
Wayan Gatra, head of the Denpasar Industry and Trade Agency, said that the increasing prices were partly a result of Australia’s recent decision to suspend its live cattle export to Indonesia.
“The prices will likely remain high as we are gearing up for the Ramadhan fasting month and Idul Fitri holidays,” Gatra said.
