BI to choose two new deputy governors

Bank Indonesia (BI) will choose officers to replace the late deputy governor Budi Rochadi and Deputy Governor Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, whose tenure ends this year, through a board of governors meeting.

An officer will be chosen to replace Budi, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday, because there are several portfolios on payment systems and circulation of money.

“The tenure of both deputies are to end and there is the possibility that the tenure will be extended,” Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Hartadi Agus Sarwono said on Thursday.

Legislator Harry Azhar Azis added that officials at the central bank should immediately recommend the names of at least three candidates to replace Budi.

“The candidate could come from within BI or from the outside. However, it is better that the [candidates] for deputy governor be a combination of people from outside and inside,” he said, as reported by tribunnews.com.
