Anas denies Nazaruddin’s allegations

Chairman of Democratic Party Anas Urbaningrum says all the allegations thrown at him by former treasury M. Nazaruddin are lies.
“They’re all lies, libel, and have no legal value,” Anas’ lawyer Patra M. Zein said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He commented on Nazaruddin’s live phone interview by a local TV station a day before.
In the interview a person claiming to be Nazaruddin said Anas’ victory in the party’s chairmanship election last year was because voters were bribed a collective amount of US$20 million, stolen from the state budget.
Nazaruddin also claimed he had evidence to prove his allegations toward Anas. However, he refused to take it to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), because he said he did not trust the commission, saying two of its chairmen had also made contact with Anas.
“If it is all true he would be back in Indonesia and have made an official dossier. Since he has not, all his statements have no legal value, yet he is spreading them to the media. He only wants to attack Anas and influence public opinion,” he said.
He added that Anas said he was not involved in corruption. Patra visited the police investigation division on Wednesday to file a report against Nazaruddin for defamation and slander.
