Metro TV news presenter Indra Maulana said Thursday he did not hear the jingle of local bread company Sari Roti while interviewing graft fugitive Muhammad Nazaruddin.
“I have recalled the interview and I cannot remember hearing [the jingle]. Besides, I was concentrating on the interview and focused on throwing questions [at Nazaruddin],” Indra told The Jakarta Post.
A video has been widely circulating on the Internet containing the recorded telephone interview between Indra and Nazaruddin, which was aired live by Metro TV on Tuesday. The Sari Roti jingle is heard as background noise in the Internet video.
It has been a very hot topic on the Internet, with Sari Roti becoming one of Twitter’s trending topics as of Thursday afternoon. The video has triggered speculation that Nazaruddin, who fled overseas after his suspected role in a number of high-profile graft cases was revealed, was actually in Indonesia.
Many Internet users, however, questioned the authenticity of the video, suggesting that the video had been engineered as part of a marketing strategy by the local bread company.
