A member of the House of Representative’s working committee on general elections violation unveiled that Mashuri Hasan’s testimony could corner former General Elections Commission (KPU) member Andi Nurpati in the Constitutional Court (MK) letter forgery case.

“Mashuri tells us that during the hearing he was approached by Andi Nurpati on August 13, during an event at the MK building. Andi then asked him to escort her to judge Arsyad Sanusi’s room. After meeting the judge for around 20 minutes, Andi told Mashuri that the KPU would send the MK a letter [disputing] the vote calculation results in South Sulawesi,” Budiman Sudjatmiko of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said on Thursday.

Budiman continued that Hasan had noticed that the draft containing the MK response to the KPU letter had been written by his superior officer, Zaenal Arifin Husein, and his colleague Pan Muhammad Faiz.

On August 15, Budiman said, Hasan then finally sent the letter to Andi Nurpati’s office. He also added that Hasan had been forced by at least three people; Nesyawati, Arsyad Sanusi’s daughter, Bambang, Dewie Yasin Limpo’s staff and Andi Nurpati herself, to immediately send the letter to the KPU.

“When he sent the letter, Hasan told us that he had explained that the letter was actually still a draft,” he said.

The letter suggested that the candidate who should be granted a seat at the House of Representatives was Dewie Yasin Limpo of the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura), who according to this letter, had won the most votes in the election.

However, it later was revealed that the letter was a fake, and that the MK had sent the real letter on Sept. 11, which said that the seat should go to Mestariyani Habie of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party.
