Democratic Party Jakarta branch secretary Irfan Gani said that chairman Anas Urbaningrum will be able to survive politically, despite various accusations by his former close aide, Muhammad Nazaruddin.
He argued that Anas would still hold the support of what he claimed to be the majority of party branch offices.
“As much as 90 percent of Democratic Party branches nationwide have declared allegiance to Anas. We will stand against those who want to topple him,” Irfan said, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday.
The rumor regarding Anas’ dismissal initially surfaced after Nazaruddin issued statements that Anas was the actor behind the SEA Games athletes’ dormitory construction bribery case.
Speaking to media, Nazaruddin recently had also brought up “old memories” by saying that he had to disburse around US$ 20 million to purchase Anas’ chairmanship post.
