The Supreme Court rejected on Wednesday graft convict’s Gayus H. Tambunan’s case review request, increasing his prison sentence by two years to 12 years’ imprisonment.
“There has been a growing opinion during the panel’s meetings that every disruption of the tax revenue process should be viewed as an attack on the country’s economic condition,” lead judge Krisna Harahap said on Wednesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Gayus’ damage to the reputation of the tax office also led to the sentence increase, Krisna said.
The former low-level tax officer, currently on trial for additional allegations, was previously convicted of bribery, making false statements and tax manipulation charges.
