South Jakarta chief prosecutor Masyhudi denied allegations that his prosecutors charged the defendants in the case surrounding the death of Citibank customer Irzen Octa on lesser crimes.
“Our decisions were appropriate. We are building the case according to the evidence we have,” he was quoted as saying Friday by news portal tempointeraktif.com.
Masyhudi added that he was more than willing to have his office examined to disprove allegations that the integrity of prosecutors was compromised.
In April this year, Citibank credit card customer Octa went to a Citibank branch office to complain about his reportedly inflated credit card bill. He was allegedly interrogated by debt collectors and collapsed. He died en route to the hospital.
Police have so far arrested three people who worked for the third-party debt collection agency: Arief Lukman, Donald Haria and Boy Anto.
