Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie has warned every Golkar cadre now still considering joining the National Democratic Party to make up their minds. He has given an August 11th deadline for them to decide whether to stay with Golkar or join the newly formed party.
“And this also applies to National Democratic patron Surya Paloh. He has two weeks to make up his mind whether to stay inside Golkar or continue the journey with the National Democratic Party,” Aburizal said on Friday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
When asked what to do if these cadres remained indecisive after the deadline, Aburizal said they would be automatically dismissed from the Golkar Party.
“Thus, once we see that they are still with other parties when we hit the deadline, they will be automatically dismissed from Golkar,” he said.
Priyo Budi Santoso, one of Golkar most senior officials, acknowledged that the party would likely miss some of its best cadres who are now leaning toward joining the National Democratic Party.
“As a colleague, I strongly suggest that they come ‘home’ to Golkar. I deeply believe that Golkar would be able to do more with their support,” he said.
The National Democratic mass organization was founded last year by a number of Golkar cadres, such as Surya Paloh, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and Syamsul Mu'arif. However, when the mass organization decided to enter the political arena by building a political party by the same name as a tool, it faced strong rejection from several influential Golkar party politicians.
The rejection resulted in the resignation of former Golkar heavyweights such as Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Central Java party branch office head Rustriningsih, West Java party branch office head Maj. Gen. (ret) Sudrajat and former Golkar secretary general Samuel Nitiseputra.
