The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the third largest party in the country, has pledged its support to party cadre Gayus Topane Lumbuun in his bid to become a Supreme Court justice.
“We will make sure that the upcoming fit and proper test at the House’s law commission would be smooth and credible,” PDIP house chief Cahyo Kumolo said Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said the party had also asked Gayus to temporarily resign from his duties as a lawmaker so that he could focus on his candidacy. Gayus, a law professor from Krisnadwipayana University in Jakarta, had stated that if elected he would be thorough in carrying out his duties as a Supreme Court justice.
Gayus had also promised that his background as a political party member would not affect his integrity as a judge.
