Baby born without anus in Tangerang needs help

Abdul Rohim and his wife Neneng, residents of Kali Paten Kampung, West Pakulonan sub district, Kelapa Dua district of Tangerang regency are shocked after discovering their new-born baby has no anus.

Feeling ashamed, the couple chose to hide their baby when journalists visited their home on Wednesday.

“We are ashamed. We just need help for our baby so that he can receive surgery; we don’t want publicity,” Neneng, the mother, told journalists.

Neneng who delivered her baby boy at the Tangerang General Hospital on Saturday afternoon said there had been no physical problems before giving birth, or any indications that she would deliver a baby without anus.

Abdul Matin, a local community unit chief, said he and other residents were trying to help the family to get free health services for her baby, although the couple had yet to register themselves as new-comers within the neighborhood.

“We heard that the couple is still registered as residents of West Panunggangan subdistrict, Cibodas district, Tangerang municipality, and they hold multipurpose cards from the administration that guarantees free health service at public hospitals [including Tangerang General],” he said.

Unfortunately, according to Abdul Matin, Tangerang General Hospital claimed to lack the necessary specialist equipment needed for the surgical procedure, so the baby was taken home again.

“We are confused as to where we can go to seek help. We will try to take the baby to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Jakarta,” he added.
