An international human rights organization says the sentences handed down to 12 people accused of slaying members of the Ahmadiyah faith in Cikeusik, West Java, show that religious minorities still “face ongoing discrimination”.

Serang District Court sentenced 10 men and two boys to between three and six months’ imprisonment for their involvement in the killing of three Ahmadis during a brutal attack against the minority community in February.

“The attacks in Cikeusik sent a frightening signal to religious minorities in Indonesia,” Amnesty International Asia-Pacific director Sam Zarifi said in a release sent to The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Your comments:

The judges did a great disservice to Indonesia. This sentence encourages terrorism and murder. Do the judges really think that these kind of people will stop with Ahmadis?

Look at Pakistan: It started with Ahmadis and now terrorism is “everyone against everyone”.

Do we want this kind of future for Indonesia? If chopped out at the seeds, the monster can still be contained.

As we know, this state is based on the belief in Almighty God and we have “Pancasila” as our guideline regarding etiquette and civilization to creating harmony among the members of religious communities.

Every single person has a basic right to choose their faith, as long as their activity is not intended to disturb the peace.

The people who have condemned Ahmadiyah are completely narrow-minded, they deem that their faith is better than another, when they are just a group of hypocrisy.
