Up to 8,000 people, consisting of military personnel, police, students and residents, will unfold a 3,000-meter-long Indonesian flag along the Indonesia-Malaysia border area in Nunukan, East Kalimantan on Aug. 16.
Mansyur Rincing from Panjiku Nunukan, a non-governmental organization that is organizing the event, said that the activity would take place at the 215A boundary marker in Sekaduyan Taka village, Nunukan, East Kalimantan.
Mansyur said a marching band would liven up the event, and all participants would sing the national anthem of Indonesia Raya at the end of the event.
“Everyone is enthusiastic about the event as they haven’t participated in any big celebration of Indonesia’s independence for more than 60 years,” Mansyur said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
On Aug. 17, a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day will be held in Sekaduyan, involving 4,000 participants.
