Jakarta police seize alcohol, fireworks

North Jakarta police confiscated 1,613 bottles of alcoholic beverages on Sunday to guarantee social order during Ramadhan, according to North Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Andap Budhi Revianto on Sunday.

“We confiscated alcoholic beverages in Tanjung Priok and Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta,” Andap said as quoted by Antara.com.

Police conducted their operation at street kiosks and in stores, he said.

“People are anxious about the distribution of alcoholic beverages, as the drinks can trigger gang fights. So we think the raid can help reduce the crime rate,” Andap said.

Police will destroy the confiscated beverages such as vodka, wine and mixed drinks after Ramadhan.

The police also seized 5,944 fireworks in Tanjung Priok and Pademangan, North Jakarta. “

“The hunt for alcohol beverages and firecrackers will be conducted thoroughly and securely to create a peaceful Ramadhan,” Andap said.
