Malaysian tourists new ‘favorite’ souvenir: Cianjur rice

Malaysian tourists who have been swarming Bandung over the past year apparently have a new favorite item to bring home as souvenirs from the West Java capital: Cianjur rice.

Rangga Umar Barkah, 28, a rice trader at Pasar Baru market in Bandung, said Sunday they especially liked premium-class rice, such as Pandan Wangi and Rojo Lele rice from the West Java town of Cianjur.

“They usually purchase 5 kilograms of rice for souvenirs. About five Malaysians buy rice [at my place] every day,” Rangga told Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, who was on a working visit in Bandung.
