The Judicial Corruption Taskforce has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to confiscate all illegal assets of high-profile bribery suspect Muhammad Nazaruddin following his arrest on Sunday in Colombia.
“The KPK must conduct a comprehensive investigation of Nazaruddin, which should confiscate all his illegal assets,” Mas Achmad Santosa said Tuesday.
Nazaruddin was taken into local police custody in Cartagena, Colombia, on Sunday after he fled Indonesia in late May and has visited several countries since.
Achmad said Nazaruddin must be given protection as an important whistle-blower, but added that he did not deserve leniency, raising questions as to the validity of his information.
“Nazaruddin must be given protection as he has given so much information on the involvement of other actors [in graft cases],” said Achmad.
“However, he may not deserve leniency as he may have been the mastermind behind these cases. Not to mention that his information may not be valid or important.”
Achmad urged the KPK to ask for assistance from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
