RI sends 54 student athletes to China

Indonesia has sent 54 student athletes to take part in an international sporting competition, the 26th Universiade, scheduled to run from August 13 to 21 in Shenzen, China.
The Indonesian team comprises 31 male and 23 female student athletes who were officially sent off by National Education Minister Mohammad Nuh in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, according to a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
The athletes will take part in track and field, weightlifting, fencing, aerobic, badminton, chess, tennis, beach volleyball and swimming competitions, it says.
Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) chairwoman Rita Subowo said she expected Indonesia to excel in these events in the future.
She added that Indonesia was looking forward to hosting the Universiade after Russia in 2013 and South Korea in 2015.
