Early next year, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II will start constructing the airport’s new design, which the government recently approved in efforts to enhance the airport's service.
The modern design, maintaining traditional elements, will cost Rp 11.7 trillion and will be funded by PT Angkasa Pura in collaboration with investors, and loans from national banks if necessary.
“The design cannot be postponed because this may result in a domino effect, and stall the process,” Tri. S. Sunoko PT Angkasa Pura II president director said in statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
He said the state-owned company’s team was speeding up the detailed engineering design so that the plan was materialized by 2014.
Tri said accelerating the airport development project was essential because existing facilities were only designed to handle 22 million passengers per year, while the number of people coming through the airport continually increased.
