I'm not interested in being president: MK chief

A- A A+

Constitutional Court (MK) chief Mahfud MD says he does not want to be the next president even though a political party is likely to nominate him for the executive post in the 2014 election.

"I'm not interested in going there (being president)," Mahfud said on the sidelines of an event at the National Police headquarters on Thursday.

A new political party, the Nation's Prosperity Party (Partai Kemakmuran Bangsa Nusantara, PKBN) chaired by Yani Wahid, announced recently that it would likely to support Mahfud MD to be the next president.

Mahfud said the party had not consulted him.

"I think it is just their aspiration. Let it be. We are a democratic country that cannot close the door on any aspiration. Let the process decide what is good and what is not," he said. (rcf)
