Mall waste has grown 3 percent due to an increase in activities in malls during Ramadhan, the South Jakarta cleaning agency said.

The agency head, Amir Sagala, said 800 personnel had been deployed in 10 districts in South Jakarta to handle the waste.

Amir added that the waste would reach its peak during Takbiran parades on the night before Idul Fitri, particularly in Pancoran, Pasarminggu, Kebayoran Baru and Kebayoran Lama.

“There will be a lot of paper waste and we will have to clean it up as soon as possible,” Amir said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Friday.

Amir said that in general, there would be an increase of 4 to 5 percent of total waste in South Jakarta, and therefore, the agency had prepared 130 garbage trucks that would be on standby 24 hours a day to take garbage to Bantar Gebang dump.
