With the Idul Fitri holiday fast approaching,
Tangerang-Merak turnpike operator PT Marga Mandala Sakti (MMS) has said that
the road, which is currently undergoing repair work, will be open for use 10
days before the holiday begins.
PT MMS president director Wiwik D. Santoso, said the company
had ensured smooth traffic flow and security along the 72.45 kilometer road, so
that it could accommodate large traffic volume during the annual mass exodus
over Idul Fitri, which falls on Aug. 30.
The repair work on the turnpike is expected to be complete
in 2012.
“This is much earlier than the initial estimate we signed in
an agreement with the Turnpike Management Body,” she said.
The Tangerang-Merak turnpike, which PT MMS manages, is the
main road connecting the Jakarta and Merak port, which connects car drivers to
South Sumatra by ferry.
According to Wiwik, PT MMS has estimated that road traffic
volume will be up 7 percent over this holiday period compared to the same
period last year.
