Nazaruddin needs doctor and psychologist: Cousin

Muhammad Nasir, the cousin of graft suspect and former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, says Nazaruddin needs a doctor and a psychologist because of his deteriorating health.

“The family plans to bring in a private doctor and psychologist to take care of Nazaruddin,” said Nasir, who is also a member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party.

He added that Nazaruddin had once worried about the possibility he could be poisoned while in detention, and had thus refused to eat and drink.

Nasir, who previously was not allowed to meet his cousin, said Nazaruddin had been treated unfairly.

“We expected Nazaruddin to be treated fairly,” he said.

Nazaruddin is a suspect in a high-profile graft case linked to a construction project for the upcoming SEA Games in Palembang, South Sumatra.

He was arrested by local authorities in Cartagena, Colombia, last Sunday and later transferred to Bogota. A team of law enforcement and ministry officials from Indonesian later retrieved him. Nazaruddin arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in East Jakarta on Saturday.

He is currently being detained at the Kelapa Dua Mobile Brigade Headquarters in Depok, West Java.
