Text your say: Independence Day

A- A A+

Your comments on Indonesia’s celebration of its 66th Independence Day, a country still facing a multitude of problems:

What Indonesia does this year will be the same as what it did last year and the year before that.

Corruption is still the main problem that should be seriously addressed, I guess.

Every time I celebrate Indonesian Independence Day, I always think of the essence of “independence” because in fact, not all people can have full access to independence in this country.

It is enjoyed only by high-ranking officials.

They can even commit corruption “independently”. Almost no rules or laws can be applied on them. Meanwhile, others suffer from injustice: rights abuse, religious intolerance, etc. So the most urgent problem is integrity.

It is very important to have a nation of the highest integrity. Start developing people’s integrity through well-managed education programs, clean government and a peaceful community.

More than 65 years of Indonesia’s independence have passed, but I cannot feel the result of that independence.

It is a fact that there are so many citizens living below the poverty line; so many children drop out of school; so many people are jobless; so many public facilities and infrastructure are not functioning properly; so many underdeveloped regions; and other examples of areas where this nation and country falls short.

What must be done, urgently, is to not to leave the government to try solve all these problems on its own, but to let us, all citizens, work together with the government to overcome many problems.

“What can we do for our country”.

Don’t just debate the differences, don’t be suspicious of each other and leave it to other groups to do good.

If we work to keep this nation unified and work hard, Indonesia will soon become a developed country.

National identity should be seriously given attention.

The problem is that nationalism now becomes subordinate to diplomatic pique.

Fighting corruption is the most urgent job.

Suksma

The most difficult problem is the (mischievous) implementation of law by its apparatus.
