Magnitude 4.9 quake rocks southern West Java

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck southern West Java, including Cianjur and Garut, at 4.42 on Friday morning, with no immediate reports of damage or injury and no tsunami alert issued.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the epicenter of the quake was 80 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi, West Java, at a depth of 53 kilometers below sea level.

“We are still inquiring to find out the latest information,” West Java Disaster Mitigation Agency chief Udjwalaprana Sigit said Friday as reported by kompas.com.
