Former lawmaker Muhammad Misbakhun, who has been released from prison after serving one year on document forgery charges, has vowed to unveil problems behind the Bank Century bailout that cost the state Rp 6.76 trillion.
“I will stand up and fight for this case. I will tell the public what really happened behind the bailout,” Misbakhun said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
He also alleged that he had been imprisoned because of his criticism of the bailout decision and not the document forgery charges leveled against him.
“I went to prison because I was giving [the government] a hard time. My criticism of the problematic bailout were viewed as a threat,” he said.
Misbakhun, a former legislator from the House of Representatives law commission and member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) was sent to prison after the court found that one of his companies, PT Selalang Prima, forged L/C documents that belonged to Century Bank. PT Selalang Prima was one of the bank’s debtors.
