A group of staffers from the University of Indonesia have criticized the university's management over the beating of student taking part in a demonstration on Thursday.

The demonstration was being held to protest what the group said was the university management’s lack of transparency in handling donations.

The beating took place shortly after the Independence Day commemorations.

“Why should there be any beatings in response to student complaints? They should actually respond by showing us how they manage the donation funds,” group chairman Andri G Wibisana said on Friday in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
