Former director of the Lampung office of state electricity firm PT PLN, Hariadi Sadono, was sentenced to four years in prison on Thursday by a district court in Bandarlampung.

The panel of judges at the Tanjungkarang District Court, presided over by Cepi Iskandar, also ordered Hariadi to pay Rp 250 million (US$29,250) in fines, or face an extra three years in prison, and legal costs  totaling Rp 137 million, or an extra two years in prison.

Cepi said Hariadi had been proven guilty of causing Rp 42.3 billion in state losses by approving PT Altelindo Karyamandiri as the outsourcing company for the procurement of an IT consumer information system for PLN Lampung, contrary to proper procedures.

Hariadi is said to have pocketed Rp 937 million from the contract between 2003 and 2004, while former PLN Lampung managing director, Budi Harsono, allegedly obtained Rp 3.4 billion.

The sentence is lower than that demanded by prosecutors: six years in prison and Rp 500 million in fines, Antara reported.
