2 million travel home by air

The Transportation Ministry said that more than 2 million people traveled to their hometowns by plane, based on data compiled on Tuesday, one day before Lebaran (Idul Fitri) celebrations, which officially begin on Wednesday.

As many as 2,060,305 people flew by plane on Tuesday, with 1,505,907 airplane passengers on Monday making their Lebaran exodus.

"Now, [air] transportation is relatively smooth and safe," ministry official Bambang Tjahyono said as quoted from kompas.com.

The ministry also recorded that 1,960,420 people made the Lebaran exodus in cars and buses on Tuesday. Meanwhile, 542,810 people traveled by train, and 408,435 traveled by ship.
