The National Police said on Wednesday that they would not take any legal action against the person who smuggled a BlackBerry smartphone to graft suspect M. Nazaruddin, who is currently being held at the Police's Mobile Brigade headquarters in Depok, West Java.
“The [smuggling] is a violation of facility regulations. Sanctions should be given based on these regulations,” National Police deputy spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said on Wednesday.
He added that wardens at the detention facility should be more alert and apply tighter security. He further said that there were more important aspects in the case to pay attention to compared to the smartphone.
“Investigations by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will focus more on the usage of the BlackBerry,” he said, as reported by kompas.com.
Nazaruddin sent messages via BlackBerry to the press alleging the involvement of high ranking officials of the Democratic Party, where he once served as treasurer, in a corruption case connected to the 2011 SEA Games.
