The National Police said that they were considering plans to hand over two corruption cases implicating SEA Games 2011 graft suspect Muhammad Nazaruddin to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The two cases which under investigation by the police and the KPK are connected to procurement projects under the Health Ministry and the National Education Ministry. Nazaruddin allegedly had a role in both cases.
National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Sutarman said that the hand over would take place if the KPK made rapid progress in investigating the cases.
“If they [KPK] can name any suspect in advance, we will hand over the cases,” he said recently, as reported by kompas.com.
Police have questioned 79 witnesses in a corruption case involving 17 hospitals in 12 provinces and 39 witnesses connected to a project under the National Education Ministry.
Nazaruddin is also being charged with graft involving a corruption case concerning the 2011 SEA Games, wherein state budget funds worth around Rp. 191.6 billion (US$22.4 million) were apparently misused.
