A Gunung Jati State Islamic University (UIN) professor of Islamic law, or sharia, passed away in Bandung after he collapsed during the Idul Fitri mass prayer at Majalengka regency square in West Java on Wednesday morning.
Fifty eight-year-old Hendi Suhandi reportedly had been delivering his sermon at the pulpit for about 10 minutes when he suddenly collapsed, kompas.com reported on Wednesday.
People tried to provide first aid and brought him to nearby hospital. However, the professor, who was also the dean of the sharia and law faculty at the university, could not be saved.
There was no immediate information on the cause of death.
Hendi’s remains will be taken this afternoon for burial in his hometown in Majalengka.
