Constitutional Court chief Mahfud MD wants the public to be wary of those who criticize the nation’s fight against corruption.

Speaking on the sidelines of an open house for Idul Fitri celebration at his residence in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Sunday, Mahfud warned the public not to be swayed by criticism of the givernment’s investigation of former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin.

“Deviating opinions surrounding Nazaruddin’s case have influenced the nation,” Mahfud said.

Mahfud said critics blamed the government for allowing Nazaruddin to leave the country for a medical treatment in Singapore a day before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) imposed a ban on his overseas travel.

The KPK had wanted to interview Nazaruddin for his alleged involvement in a bribery case related to the construction of the athletes’ village for the Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, South Sumatra.
