The Tangerang municipal administration has stated that it gladly welcomes new migrants expected to arrive from various regions into the municipality after the 2011 Idul Fitri holidays.

“We welcome new migrants who will look for jobs in the city as long as they abide by the demography regulations,” Mulyanto, head of the city’s population and civil registration agency said Tuesday.

He said that the administration had been intensively monitoring demographics at district and sub-district administration offices across the city to assure that the number of new migrants could be monitored.

“This is a routine task that we have to conduct after Idul fitri holidays and we have formulated information about demography regulations that new migrants must abide by,” he said.

According to Mulyanto, every new migrant must report to the respective neighborhood unit and community unit within 24 hours.

“If they want to settle in the city, they must bring an introductory letter from their previous sub-district so that that they can arrange for new ID and family cards as well as demographic administrative procedures,” he said.

Tangerang municipality, 30 kilometers west of Jakarta, is home to over one thousand industrial firms, where many rented establishments and packed settlements near factories are temporary shelters for undocumented migrants.
