2 residents dead in W. Nusa Tenggara brawl
Two people died Tuesday in a brawl between residents of a village in Lape district, in the West Nusa Tenggara regency of Sumbawa Besar.
Twelve others sustained stab wounds in the conflict, while another three are in a critical condition and are being treated at Mataram Hospital.
The dead victims were Robert Rundi and Agus Mone from Sumba Barat Daya regency in the neighboring province of East Nusa Tenggara. Both were manual laborers working on a local administration project in Lape.
Sumba Barat Daya regent Kornelis Kodi Mete said on Wednesday that the deadly brawl might have been caused by a misunderstanding.
“It was actually just a problem of misunderstanding and the situation in Lape district has returned to normal. The killing would not have happened if the residents of Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, hadn’t run away when police came.
“But they ran, and the locals ran after them. And then the killing happened,” Kornelis said in Sumba Barat Daya, as quoted by kompas.com
