Ministry secretary set to appear for first court hearing
Suspended Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry secretary Wafid Muharam is scheduled to appear for his first hearing at the Corruption Court in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Wafid’s lawyer, Erman Umar, said prosecutors would read out the indictment during the hearing.
Wafid was arrested by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officers at his office while he was allegedly receiving a Rp 3.2 billion (US$374,400) bribe from PT Anak Negeri marketing director Mindo Rosalina Manulang and PT Duta Graha Indah marketing manager Mohammad El Idris.
The money was said to have been paid as a winning fee for the two companies in a tender for the construction of an athletes’ village in Palembang, worth Rp 191 billion, for the upcoming SEA Games 2011.
Meanwhile, the trials of Rosalina and El Idris are already underway in the same case, which has also dragged down former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, another suspect in the case.
