Sports minister to honor 10 former athletes

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng is slated to hand out a new award to 10 former athletes who have had successful post-retirement careers.

The badges will be handed over to Utut Adianto (chess), Rudi Hartono (badminton), Susi Susanti (badminton), Purnomo (athletics), John D Item (swimming), Budi Dharma Sidi (athletics), Tan Joe Hok (badminton), M Sarengat (athletics), Leane Suniar (archery) and Ricard Samberra (swimming).

The awards will be handed to the former athletes on National Sports Day at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Center on Friday.

“This award is important to inspire other athletes,” the minister said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.
