Hasanuddin University (Unhas) plans to award former vice president Jusuf Kalla an honorary doctoral degree to coincide with celebrations of its 55th anniversary on Saturday.

Former Unhas rector and also former Indonesian ambassador to Iran, Basri Hasanuddin, will act as the promoter.

“Jusuf Kalla’s views on economics — better known as Kallanomics — have had a significant influence on the life of the nation,” Basri said in Makassar on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

Basri lauded Kalla's economic vision as “supportive to the real sector and applicable”.

The Saturday presentation ceremony will also be attended by Mappa Nasrun and Hamid Awaluddin as co-promoters.

Jusuf Kalla will be the seventh figure to receive an honorary doctoral degree from the university. Similar degrees were earlier awarded to Sukarno, Mohammad Hatta, Chaerul Saleh, BJ Habibie, Nelson Mandela and Tun Nadjib Tun Razak.
