Pop stars set to launch new Kompas TV station in Jakarta

Pop stars are scheduled to perform during an event held to mark the official launch of a new television station, Kompas TV, at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday.

The Erwin Gutawa Orchestra, orchestra conductor Addie MS and jazz singer Andien are among those scheduled to perform.

Several officials have also commented on the launch of the new station, which will air on UHF channel 32 for areas in and around Jakarta.

"Kompas TV may be critical, but it must also report on the good sides of Indonesia," Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said Friday.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo also said the TV station must provide good entertainment and balanced news reporting.

The launch will be broadcast live tonite.
