Kalla receives honorary doctorate from Unhas
Former vice president Jusuf Kalla received an honorary doctorate from Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in a ceremony in Makassar on Saturday.
Basri Hasanuddin, an Unhas professor and former rector who promoted Kalla for the title, granted it to the latter during the peak commemoration of Unhas’ 55th anniversary at the university’s Makassar campus.
Unhas rector Idrus A. Paturusi said Kalla received the honor for his achievement and role in the development of the country’s economic sector.
Similar titles were earlier granted to Indonesia’s first president Sukarno, first vice president Muhammad Hatta, former president B.J. Habibie and former South African president Nelson Mandela, among others.
Anniversary committee chairman Muhammad Restu said Unhas will also soon award several Japanese professors for their roles in developing education in Unhas, including Koji Tanaka from Kyoto University and Katsuya Osozawa from Ehime University.
“Unhas has long established education partnerships with Japan,” Restu said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
