Indonesia has been told to heighten its alert ahead of commemorations of the 10th anniversary of the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorism attack in New York on Sunday.
Local intelligence observer Wawan Purwanto said radical groups in the country were continuing to gain power and might use the event to launch terror attacks.
He told security officers to prioritize securing areas that might be prone to acts of terror, although added that “routine” security measures were sufficient.
“[Security officers] must decide on their priorities, where the vulnerable places are. They should prepare plans A, B and C and anticipate other possibilities as terrorists often change their targets,” Wawan said Saturday in Jakarta as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He also reminded security officers not to abandon security measures in their own offices, citing past terror attacks on police posts in a number of regions over the last couple of years.
