The Association of Land Transportation Owners (Organda), in East Java, said on Monday that the death toll from a bus collision in Mojokerto, East Java, had risen to 21 people.

“I just got the information that 21 people died,” head of Organda H.B. Musthofa said on Monday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com, but he refused to release names of the victims.

He said the number of casualties was likely to increase as many victims were still in critical condition and being treated in intensive care. The accident involved a Sumber Kencono bus and a minibus.

Musthofa said the accident was not the first time for Sumber Kencono buses. “There should be an evaluation carried out within the bus company.”

He said that Organda had already conducted management trainings for all bus drivers, including those with Sumber Kencono, and had previously asked the bus company to repair and upgrade its buses to avoid accidents, which could result in substantial financial losses for the company.

Musthofa added that Organda had asked the bus company to change its name from Sumber Kencono to Sumber Selamet, but only 30 out of 230 buses are currently using the new name.
