AKARTA: Protesters in Cakung turned out in large numbers on Monday to protest bullying by public order officers who tried to evict residents of Kampung Sawah from their neighborhood.
The Cakung residents staged the protest to resist efforts by the East Jakarta Public Order officers to evict them from their homes and land that they have occupied for years.
“They gave us three days to leave our homes without any compensation,” one of the protesters, Anwar, said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Anwar said that the land belonged to a private company, PT Bumi Indira Wisesa, and that locals had been living in the neighborhood since 1997.
